the 70 Week

The Seventy. What is it about?

In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10, Jesus sends seventy of his followers to the villages and towns of Israel with the mission to find people of peace, to serve them in the power of God and to share the Gospel. This is exactly what we also intend to do with the Mallorca Outreach called “The Seventy”. We are looking for 70 young people from Germany, Switzerld and other countries from Europe, who together with our RMS students, are crazy enough to reach 100 villages on Mallorca with the Gospel in one week.

We will send you in small groups (2-4 people), from our Reach Mallorca base in Santa Maria, to the north, south, west and east of the island. If we are 30 groups and we reach during these 5 days 3-4 villages, then we will have accomplished our goal.

Over 150 years ago, the Gospel came to the island in a very similar way. British missionaries went through the villages with donkey carts and evangelistic literature, praying for open people. This is how the first churches came into being.

Experience reports from the year 2023

We were on our way to Valldemossa and prayed that we would be taken along by a young couple, preferably German-speaking, so that we could talk to them. Two minutes later, a car pulled up and a young German couple gave us a lift.
Not only did they give us a lift, but they were also generous enough to offer us money as we had none with us. We suggested instead that we would prefer, if we would go out for a meal together. Shortly afterwards, we sat in a restaurant and ate tapas for four hours and had the opportunity to pray together. It was particularly touching that the young woman said a prayer for the first time. After a heartfelt farewell, we spent the night in the mountains. The next day we walked on to Deià, where we stayed for a day before continuing our journey. On Thursday we had the impression of fasting and deciding to fast, as we had already prepared to forgo our usual comforts. We were given a lift to Sa Calobra, but had to walk all the way to Lluc, but had to walk all the way to Lluc as it was difficult to find a lift. Although we had no food all day, we had a supernatural power that accompanied us. At a small kiosk, a generous woman gave us two bars. We even had enough money the next day from her to buy some baguettes.

What do we do exactly?

In Mallorca you can find everything. Small rural villages, party locations like Magaluf or Ballermann, places in the southeast of the island where the rich and celebrities meet or poorer immigrant neighborhoods in Palma. We want to reach all of them with God’s love.

There are two keywords that are important to us for this outreach: SERVING and FRIENDLY sharing the Gospel. The method that does not work at all in Mallorca beyond Ballermann or Magaluf is to stand on the street and preach. Especially in the villages, this approach just seems alienating.
One approach could be to find people to whom you can serve practically: Clean up, help with gardening or other things. This is something people don’t know and they become curious. In the process, opportunities to share the Gospel will arise, and perhaps you will find a place where you can get something to eat, be invited to a party, or have a place to stay for the night. The next day you will move on. Evangelistic material in different languages will be provided by the RMS.

Here are some concrete ideas:

  • You hike on Mallorca’s hiking trails, sleep in the mountains, and if you meet other hikers, get to know them and tell them about Jesus.
  • You go to Magaluf, to the Ballermann or to the Cala Rajada in the east of the island, mingle with the party people and get into conversation with people about Jesus.
  • You go to some of the countless villages on Mallorca and find a restaurant, a private house, a family, a party, offer your help and that’s how conversations starts.
  • You go to a rich neighborhood in the southeast of the island, feel the vibe, meet people and tell them about Jesus.

God will guide you. You will see that the story of what you are doing will open many doors. However, you must be aware that it can be a very demanding mission. Also, the temperatures can easily reach over 30 degrees during the day and the sun is burning.

When do I have to book the flight?

During Sunday, July 7, you will arrive at the airport in Palma and travel either by public transport or by cab to the Reach Mallorca Base. You will take care of the flight and the transportation by yourself. The first night you will sleep in our base, concretely this means under the open sky or in your own tent. Before we go out to the villages, we will have a preparation day together on Monday, July 8.

Then you will be on the road for 4 days. Saturday morning you will come back and on Saturday evening, July 13th, we will all celebrate together with good food. A big Celebration where we tell each other what God has done during that week. During the week we are all connected by a big WhatsApp group.
Departure is during Sunday, July 14.

Arrival before July 7 is not possible, unfortunately neither is departure after July 14.

What are the cost of the outreach?

The outreach costs only 60 Euro. With the confirmation of your registration you will receive a transfer request. What you have to pay for is the flight and the food you will need during the week. The earlier you register and book your flight, the better and cheaper it is for you.

All other details & informations

Accommodation, transportation and food: The first and the last two nights, you can sleep in our base. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat. A small tent of your own is also an advantage.

Overnight: The days you are on the island, you have to find “places of peace”, where you can stay the night. There you will also need a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat. It will be very warm, therefore even a night under the open sky would not be the worst thing.

Emergency accommodation: We will try to set up something like “emergency domiciles” in different places on the island, but definitely in our base in the center of the island, where you can show up in the evening if necessary, if you run out of energy completely.

Food: You will have to provide your own food during the days you are on the road. There are supermarkets and small restaurants everywhere.

Transportation: From A to B, you can get by public transport, or you can hitchhike or you can hike, as you like.

Age and framework: The mission is from 18 years old.
Small groups: It’s great if you do the outreach with one or two friends. If you sign up alone, we will add you to a group. The ideal group size is two or three people. However, we do not want to send groups of two that are made up of unmarried men and women.

Language: In the Mallorcan villages, some people speak English or German, but the main language is Spanish or Mallorquin. This will be a challenge that you need to be aware of. Basically, however, the island will be full of tourists from all over Europe in July, so you will mostly meet people who speak English or German.

In case of emergency: Our base is located in the middle of the island. There is no place we can’t reach within 75 minutes. We have different vehicles. In case of emergency, we can pick you up somewhere and bring you to the base. However, the goal of the outreach is for you to spend the week on your own and learn to let God guide you.
